Yoga in the Hood started in my neighborhood, Hidden Springs, in 2008. It started as a small studio inside the bonus room of my home which at its maximum could hold 10 yoga mats, but really 6 mats was best for ideal space and comfort. My husband Mike, who also teaches yoga, and I moved to Boise just before our son turned 3 years old and now he is 11 years old attending Sage International School for the first time this year, 2014. With perfect timing as my son has gained more independence my spirit too was called to make a move. So in April of 2014 I began my search of a new space and 514 N 16th street showed up on my radar. We exuberantly restored this building that was originally built in 1947 back to her bones. This has been a 25 year journey to this evolution and I welcome you to our new studio with heartfelt appreciation.
We aim to be inclusive to yoga with the ‘complete system’ of Raja yoga which encompasses all four dimensions of human interaction: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. This path encourages healthy self-examination with a variety of techniques like breathing, postures, meditation, sound, and more……….all for the goal of health, inner peace, happiness, and wisdom. Yoga does not contradict or interfere with any religion, and may be practiced by everyone, whether they regard themselves as agnostics or members of a particular faith.
We expand the confines of what yoga has become in the modern world as just an exercise to stretch and bend, but to rekindle the most important teaching of yoga which has to do with our true nature as human beings. We recognize that each individual is unique and that yoga is not a “one size fits all,” yet a pathway to greater self-discovery and overall health. Our aim is to help you uncover your true nature with empowerment, compassion, some tough love if needed, and support. We hope that you will come away with profound relaxation, a diversion from life’s physical and mental work to reduce stress, provide balance, and a means of realizing your greatest potential and happiness.
Education is paramount. We offer a variety of posture/movement classes, meditation, and various workshops to facilitate your well-being. We also offer bodywork such as massage therapy, craniosacral therapy, NuVision Body Scanning, Private Yoga Instruction, Workshops, and more….
We are a serious, fun-loving, accepting, educational, and relational, healing center. Welcome to YOGA in the HOOD! We look forward to knowing YOU.
